Week 37 - Summer Term - 11/07/2025
Friday 11 July 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
The warm temperatures this week have certainly made it feel like summer has arrived! Whilst we’ve enjoyed the sunshine, we’re all hoping it continues into the summer holidays.
One of the highlights of the week was the Year 6 trip to London. The children had an unforgettable experience visiting the Palace of Westminster. They toured the House of Commons, where they were able to watch a live debate, and also explored the House of Lords.
A particular highlight was a workshop session and Q&A with Jo White, MP for Bassetlaw, who kindly gave her time to speak with the pupils.
The day continued with a riverside picnic by the Thames, followed by a river cruise past iconic London landmarks, and ended with a ride on the London Eye. Seeing the children’s excitement made the early start more than worthwhile.
Today, we proudly celebrated International Day, a brilliant opportunity to showcase and appreciate the cultural diversity of our school and the wider world. It was heart-warming to see pupils engaging with displays, activities, and traditions from a variety of countries and continents as they moved around the school.
As we approach the final two weeks of term, there is still much to look forward to! We’re excited for the Year 5/6 end-of-year production, the announcement of the winning house and their reward trip, the Year R/1 outing, the KS2 disco, and more.
A special thank you to our local PCSO who visited KS2 this week to deliver an important talk on safety and making sensible choices in readiness for the summer holiday.
Communication Request
A polite reminder: we are a school community, and we expect all staff, parents, and visitors to treat one another with respect and courtesy at all times. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards aggressive or threatening behaviour.

News from the Classrooms
Reception
This week, Reception have been exploring the story Handa’s Surprise as part of their learning about Kenya. The children used the story to support their understanding of life in Kenya and compared it to life in England, noticing both similarities and differences. As part of their creative work, the children made some beautiful necklaces inspired by traditional Maasai designs. Reception also had a fantastic time celebrating International Day! They travelled around the school, taking part in a range of exciting activities to learn about different countries and cultures from around the world.
Class 1
This week, Year 1 went on a five senses walk around the school as part of our science topic on the human body and our senses. They noticed the chirping of birds, and the sounds of cars driving passed. They described how the flowers and grass felt beneath their hands, and they talked about the bright colours of flowers. They used almost all of their senses to describe the world around them, although they said it was very tricky to taste anything
Class 2
This week Class Two have begun writing a non-chronological report on Australian Geography. They have thought carefully about the features of a non-chronological report before planning sub-headings in the form of question sentences. They will write their reports next week, including many of the amazing facts they have learnt about this amazing country!
Class 3
Class 3 this week have been learning all about water safety. The children had to learn the different strategies for water safety such as shouting, reach and throw a float. All of the children did well and were sensible in understanding the topic of safety. Also this week, the children presented their manifestos for the school’s council. It was great to see the children present and answer questions. In Topic, they have been designing a non-chronological report for Mount Vesuvius.
Class 4
Year 4 have worked extremely hard on their maths assessments this week. It was great to see them applying their year 4 knowledge to the worded problems. In science, year 4 have been creating classification keys to classify different organisms based on their characteristics. They created classification keys as a group and then swapped with another group to peer assess each others work. In English, year 4 have used the book ‘leaf’ to support their narrative writing unit. They have thought of expanded noun phrases and speech that they can apply to the characters in the book. In history, year 4 have been looking at Tudor explorers and plotted the route and discoveries on a world map.
Class 5
This week Class 5 worked hard on their character description based on a character from ancient Greece. They needed to apply their Class 5 knowledge to set the scene and describe the character. In Maths, Class 5 have been continuing with their decimals learning focusing on efficient ways to add and subtract decimals. As part of their Young Leaders Award, Class 5 researched different charities and began to plan ways to raise money for their chosen charity.
Class 6
Year 6 had a wonderful day visiting the capital city this week. On Tuesday children travelled down to London (from 6am) and got to experience lots of the city. They arrived at the houses of Parliament and were shown around by their very own tour guide and given headphones to enable them to listen to expert knowledge, during their tour. When they entered Parliament, they were able to visit the House of Lords and the House of Commons, where they were able to sit in the public viewing gallery and listen to a live debate around the Justice system. It really was a privilege. After this, children were introduced to our local MP Jo White, who kindly took the time out of her busy schedule to come and speak to her young constituents about their concerns and hopes for their local town. They came up with very insightful suggestions and questions.
Soon after their tummies were beginning to rumble so they headed across to the gardens and parks situated just behind the London Eye. Here they relaxed for an hour, enjoyed their picnic in the sunshine and had fun with the pigeons. Now it was time for them to queue up for the boat and have a guided tour down the River Thames. They saw famous landmarks such as Shakespeare Globe, the Shard and the OXO tower. They passed under several of London's famous bridges, make sure you ask them what the famous bridge is called that is always called London Bridge.
After the river cruise children went on board a flight on the London Eye, where they got to see London's landmarks from the sky. They were all very well behaved and had the best day.
